Kate, couldn't agree more about the value of educational experiences abroad. I, like your father, was a US Foreign Service Officer, and my pre-FS experiences as a student and volunteer in the West Bank, Tunisia, and Scotland were formative.

Now I head TALIM, the Tangier American Legation Institute for Moroccan Studies, the only US National Historic Landmark abroad, and the first American diplomatic property. I hope that ATA can come our way!

a very interesting and lovely written article. i live in saint jorioz and envy those who have walked up la tournette. i have always wanted to do it but am not sure i have enough stamina. i have walked around most of the other mountains and areas surronding the lake but la tournette looks scary. it really does dominate the area. your article has helped me make my mind up that i will walk it before i leave the region.

Dear Mr. Krakowski:

Thank you for your positive feedback. It it strue that inspiration makes better blogs. When I am not feeling compelled to write something, I prefer not to post. Hence the sporadic nature of my blogs. I guess we just need to try harder to find inspiration in the every day!

All my best,

Kate
